A New Option for Chronic Neuropathic Pain

Living with chronic neuropathic pain can affect every part of your daily life — your sleep, your work, your relationships, and your overall sense of well-being. If you have been managing nerve-related pain and are looking to learn about additional options, our team at California Pain Medicine Center is here to help you understand what is available.

We have added Axon Therapy mPNS from Neuralace Medical to our practice as part of our commitment to offering thoughtful, non-invasive options for our patients. On this page, you will find information about what the therapy is, how a session works, what conditions it is FDA-cleared to treat, and how to determine whether a consultation is the right next step.

What Is Axon® Therapy mPNS?

Axon Therapy mPNS is a non-invasive treatment designed to address chronic neuropathic pain through magnetic peripheral nerve stimulation (mPNS). The therapy delivers targeted magnetic pulses to the affected nerve without the need for surgery or long-term medication use.

Axon Therapy mPNS is delivered in our office during scheduled visits. Each session is approximately 13 minutes long, and the treatment is designed to be painless — most patients describe the experience as comfortable. You remain awake and alert throughout, and you can typically return to your normal activities the same day.

How Axon Therapy mPNS Works

Axon Therapy mPNS works by delivering targeted magnetic pulses to peripheral nerves. These magnetic pulses are designed to modulate the activity of the nerves, which can affect the transmission of pain signals to the brain.

Because the therapy is delivered magnetically from outside the body, there are no incisions, no implanted hardware, and no anesthesia. Treatment is provided as a series of therapy sessions; the number and frequency of sessions appropriate for you will be determined by your physician based on your individual condition.

Are You a Candidate?

Axon® Therapy mPNS is FDA-cleared for:

  • Painful Diabetic Neuropathy of the lower extremities
  • Post-Surgical Pain
  • Post-Traumatic Pain
  • Chronic Intractable Pain

Only a qualified clinician can determine whether Axon Therapy mPNS is appropriate for you. The best way to find out is to schedule a consultation with our team. During that visit, your physician will review your medical history, discuss your current and past treatments, and help you decide whether this therapy fits into your overall care plan.

We encourage you to bring a list of your current medications, prior treatments, and any questions you would like to ask. There is no obligation to proceed after your consultation.

What to Expect at California Pain Medicine Center

Your experience with us begins with a consultation. During this visit, your physician will:

  • Review your medical history and the details of your chronic neuropathic pain.
  • Discuss the treatments and approaches you have tried previously.
  • Explain Axon Therapy mPNS and how it would be used as part of your care.
  • Help you decide together whether moving forward is appropriate based on your individual circumstances.

If you and your physician decide to proceed, your care plan will be tailored to your needs. Our team will walk you through every step before, during, and after each session.

Why Patients Choose California Pain Medicine Center

The California Pain Medicine Centers has existed for 18 years and the Center for the Rehabilitation of Pain Syndromes (CRPS) was established 15 years ago.

These practices have collectively evolved from an initial pain practice that began full-time in 1991. Thus, the practice has a history of almost a quarter century of providing quality care and leadership in pain medicine. During this time, the practice has established itself as the premier quality pain practice in Southern California and is recognized both nationally and internationally for the care delivered related to Complex Regional Pain Syndromes (CRPS), neuromodulation, comprehensive interdisciplinary functional rehabilitation, and spinal diagnostics and therapeutics. This has been accomplished without any formal advertising or marketing. The center has developed its reputation by providing high-quality care, with well communicated documentation to its referring physicians. In addition, the center has produced numerous publications in highly regarded peer-reviewed journals. Research has been conducted for many established pain treatment modalities. The center because of its work has been recognized consistently in the mass media for better than two decades and has continued with national coverage on two television shows in the last several months.
