Home 9 CRPS Treatment

Complex regional pain syndrome (CRPS) can affect a patient’s arm, hand, leg, or foot. This generally occurs following an injury. Other body parts such as the face are rarely affected. The symptoms can be mild or severe, lasting for several months or even years.

The root cause of CRPS is not known, but there are treatments available to relieve symptoms and restore limb function. Most patients experience a fast recovery process, but the condition can be recurring and persist for several more years.

The condition also affects a larger proportion of females than males. The arm is the limb most vulnerable to being affected. Each case of CRPS is different and requires a unique approach to treatment.

Symptoms of CRPS

  • Burning sensation or pain in the arm, hand, leg, or foot
  • Varying intensity of pain
  • Loss of motor control
  • Tremors or spasms
  • Body stiffness
  • Changes to skin, hair, and nails on the affected limb

Get Help to Manage Your Pain

Injuries that may result in CRPS include fractures, broken bone, deep cuts, wounds, lacerations, or previous surgery. There is no simple cure for the condition, each treatment approach is applied differently depending on the patient. There are pain-relieving medications available that can help patients manage CRPS. Physical therapy can also be performed to manage pain and swelling.

In addition to medical and physical therapy, other strategies to treat CRPS include counseling, psychological support, intervention therapy, and implant therapy. Dr. Joshua Prager and Dr. Marilyn Jacobs specialize in long-term treatments for CRPS and help patients manage the pain associated with this condition.
